Our History

Alliance Against Child Violence: Our Shared Story

Supporting The Future's Story

  • Hosting free football events with coaching courses and tournaments, offering accessible opportunities for all
  • 65 suitcases donated across three African countries
  • Comprehensive programs in Kenya, Lesotho, and South Africa.

Two organisations sharing a common mission have joined forces to enhance their efforts in safeguarding children from violence and adversity. Originating in the UK under the leadership of James Murray, Supporting The Future has been actively involved in Lesotho for over six years. Their impactful initiatives have extended to Kenya and South Africa in the past. With generous support from sponsors in both the UK and the United States, their international outreach has resulted in the donation of 65 suitcases filled with football clothing, shoes, and equipment, benefiting over 4,000 children across Africa.

Their initiatives focus on reaching out to children on the streets, providing them with opportunities to engage in free events like football tournaments, community sessions, workshops, and annual Christmas parties held at orphanages. In addition to these events, their impactful work extends to life skill workshops, fostering children's self-belief, confidence, and resilience in dealing with adversity. In 2024, they sought support from a local organisation sharing similar intentions and goals to strengthen their collaborative efforts in fulfilling their mission.

The International Human Rights Laboratory, established by Basotho human rights defenders, operates as a non-governmental organisation dedicated to the defence and advocacy of rights for women, girls, children, youth, and all victims of domestic violence (DV), gender-based violence (GBV), and violence against children (VAC). Its overarching mission centres around crafting solutions aimed at diminishing violence targeting women, girls, children, and youth, achieved through collaborative endeavours with relevant stakeholders.

International Human Rights Laboratory's Story

  • Hosting academic events across Lesotho
  • Offering legal services to violence victims
  • Awareness campaigns on violence

Since its establishment in 2022, the International Human Rights Lab has achieved several milestones. These include hosting academic events for universities, offering legal services to victims of violence, conducting numerous awareness campaigns on violence, and providing capacity-building initiatives concerning the legal frameworks regulating DV, GBV, and VAC.

The Laboratory has actively supported the implementation of events organised or funded by prominent organisations such as the World Health Organisation, U.S Department of State, Vodacom Lesotho, United Nations Human Rights, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, International Olympic Committee Young Leader, American Corner, We Run Lesotho, Let’s Talk Law Kenya, Legally Yes, Audacious Leaders, and The Delegation of the European Union.

International Human Rights Lab, having achieved significant milestones, is elevating its journey by partnering with Supporting The Future to create the consortium "International Supportive Futures," where it assumes a prime partner role. This marks a transformative phase, underscoring its commitment to broader supportive initiatives.

Vision Statement:

Our vision is a Lesotho where every vulnerable child, woman and young adult, if affected by violence and adversity, is embraced within a nurturing network that transcends trauma.

Through unwavering support, education, and preventive initiatives, we envision a future where these lives not only overcome their past challenges but emerge as resilient contributors to a society defined by compassion, equality, and boundless opportunities.

Our consortium stands united, nurturing a community where the potential of every vulnerable individual is ignited, guiding them to become catalysts for positive change within and beyond Lesotho.

Our 5 Year Roadmap:

Establishing Our Inaugural Facility

  • Range of programs to support vulnerable victims of violence
  • Creative ways to prevent violence before it may occur
  • Safe space for rehabilitation of children, women and young adults that have been affected by violence

Our primary objective is to establish our first facility dedicated to supporting vulnerable individuals impacted by violence. This facility will serve as the nexus for a range of meticulously designed programs aimed at nurturing the physical, physiological, and mental well-being of those affected by trauma.

Through a series of workshops and courses, the facility aims to empower and protect children, women, and young adults by equipping them with the tools to recognize potential instances of gender-based violence (GBV) and prevent their occurrence. The programs will include content on identifying early signs, and participants will learn effective methods to protect themselves. Additionally, strategies for coping with and overcoming any past experiences of GBV will be an integral part of the curriculum.

Supporting The Future Football academy

  • Football academy with the goal of violence prevention
  • Enhancement of personal skills and physical fitness of children
  • Counteracting street violence, school violence and domestic violence

Our secondary objective involves the establishment of 'Supporting The Future Academy,' our dedicated football academy. This initiative aims to counteract street violence, school violence, and domestic violence by offering comprehensive opportunities and programs for those at risk. The academy seeks to not only enhance their skills and physical fitness but also impart essential life skills while encouraging independent thinking.

Through these initiatives, we aspire to create a positive impact on the lives of these at-risk individuals and contribute to the prevention of violence within their communities. The academy will be a first of its kind in Lesotho, offering opportunities for jobs, increased sports participation, and positive development in the communities it touches.

Pioneering a Modern Educational Hub

  • Establishment of groundbreaking school marking a new era in Lesotho
  • Prioritising physical and mental well-being
  • Helling children recognise and unlock their full potentials

A future endeavour involves the establishment of a groundbreaking school, marking a new era in education for Lesotho. With the necessary funding, this innovative institution aims to redefine the educational landscape with a modern design and progressive ideas. Our vision is to create an environment that prioritises the physical and mental well-being of every child.

Embracing contemporary educational methodologies, the school will challenge students, pushing them beyond conventional boundaries, and fostering an environment that helps them recognise and unlock their full potential.

Creating a Secure Refuge at our 'ISF Center'

  • A secure haven for all at risk to types of violence
  • Nurturing space where all individuals can freely express themselves
  • Developing successful independent thinking and effective problem-solving skills

Our goal is to create a secure haven for all those at risk at our center. Specifically designed to cater to their needs, this center will function as a nurturing space where individuals can openly express themselves. The center's design will emphasize active listening, engaging entertainment, and insightful workshops.

Together, these elements will empower children, women, and young adults to surmount challenges and navigate their circumstances, fostering the cultivation of successful independent thinking and effective problem-solving skills. Through this initiative, our aim is to offer not just a physical refuge but a supportive environment that encourages resilience and growth.

Champions Of Innovative Support

  • Inspire other centres of care across Lesotho and beyond
  • Creating real, long lasting positive change
  • Improving the well-being of people vulnerable to violence across Africa

Our overarching aim extends beyond the immediate impact on at risk people; we aspire to introduce an entirely novel concept to Lesotho through our centre. By pioneering this innovative approach, our goal is to inspire and catalyse the establishment of similar centres across the nation and beyond its borders.

We envision a ripple effect, where the success and effectiveness of our initiatives become a catalyst for positive change, creating a network of centres dedicated to the well-being and empowerment of vulnerable to violence throughout Africa.
